Lwing Update: Framing complete.

Categories: LWing Remodel Comments Off

by Willy Hughes

We should have windows this week.  New door frames are waiting for new doors.   Each week, a few of us have been putting in extra hours to keep the remodel project moving forward while endeavoring to keep costs contained.  With the framing now complete, the electricians will begin their work.  Given the scope and purpose of the building use, the electrical phase will be significant, as we will also be installing sound, video, security, data, and other low voltage needs.

We are not ready to guess an occupation date quite yet.  However, we are excited to move into this next phase.  If you want to come over and take a mini-tour, let me know.

Lwing Update

$12, 78o.  That is how much, to date, our voluteers have helped FBCBeaverton with their time and skills.  Several hours have been spent cutting the concrete slab for new underslab plumbing, trenching for exterior sewer tie-ins, and backfilling the work with gravel and concrete.  Our mechanical permit has been approved and I expect this work to begin the first week in July.

Framing is anticipated to begin in July as well.  Although there is not much framing to do, some of it will require expertise.  We will be fortunate to have the services of 3-4 experts to work with the “rest” of us hacks.  However, I am also hopeful to find a few more qualified volunteers to ensure that framing will be professionally completed this month.  If you know of a church, with expereinced contractors, that is looking for a weekend service project, please bring to the attention of Willy Hughes.

What is all of the noise next door?

Categories: LWing Remodel, Youth Ministry Comments Off

The noise next door is coming from our original worship buildings.  The 1950′s block building has been the home of the youth ministry program and general classroom space.   Over the years, these buildings have been deteriorating.  There have been severe mold issues, lack of heating or air conditioning, and a non-functioning floor plan for a growing youth ministry.  Two to three years ago, our church decided that it was important to bring this space up to current code as well as the provision of a space that met the demands of a teenage ministry.  Since that time, we have been working with various experts and volunteers to design and build a space where our students and their friends can call home.

We are hoping that this remodel will be mostly complete by Fall 2010.   If you have any questions about this project, please contact Willy Hughes or Norm Langston.   If you would like to contribute to the completion of this project, please contact Willy Hughes.    Pictures of our progress.
